The fog is thickening as Kurogane and Fay search the forest for people. Kurogane, uncharacteristically, declares that the dark frightens him. He then declares that he is VERY happy once Fay consoles him. Just then, Mokona jumps out of Kurogane's cloak and announces we have just witnessed Mokona's 108th secret technique! Apparently Mokona can imitate voices with its Super Voice Imitation technique. Fay then questions Mokona regarding the other 107 techniques. In response, Mokona informs him that they're secret! Just then, the lake begins to shimmer through the fog. The light brightens the night sky, and Kurogane and Fay dash toward Sakura and Syaoran.
As the lake's surface becomes more and more unstable, Syaoran has Sakura hide. As she hides, she recalls a memory of her father and another man. The man asks how she is and introduces his son, who is about the same age as her. Her father pulls her aside and explains that the boy has gone through a lot, though he does not know it. He suggests that the boy could use a friend, and asks if she would be willing. He also says that he needs warmth through a smile-a smile that can rival the sunlight of springtime, to be exact. As Syaoran and Sakura lay on the ground near the lake, Sakura wonders who she was introduced to. Syaoran lunges into the water and recalls a moment from his own childhood. He is speaking with his father about the birthday party. He recalls how the princess smiled at him. She wasn't angry with him for forgetting the past and did not pity him. She even picked out a birthday for him! As he receives a hug from his father, he thought about the princess' smile and how very warm it felt.
Diving deeper into the lake, Syaoran spots something. It's a city! Suddenly, a bright fish swims above him. He can breathe, too! The sight is all too incredible for Syaoran. He is crouched before a miniature city where an illuminating fish acts as the sun. Syaoran remembers his father's comments about the unknown and how he would like to become aware of such mysteries as a glowing fish scale drops into Syaoran's hands. He remembers his father's comments about happiness, too. He thinks about his father's speech in relation to Sakura as he swims toward the surface, carrying the scale. When he reaches the ground he is greeted by Mokona, who worriedly shouts that something has happened to Sakura!
